Special Purpose Funds

Special Purpose Funds

Special Purpose Funds arise when funds are donated to The Charity for specific purposes within its charitable objects, and therefore have a more restricted application. For example, The Charity may receive funds from donors who have indicated that they should be applied to staff welfare of a specific department or a particular type of research. These funds are classified by the Charity Commission as restricted funds but we also refer to them as Special Purpose Funds (SPFs).

The Charity currently administers in excess of four hundred of these funds. These funds are of great benefit to Barts and the London NHS Trust, Barts and the London Queen Mary’s School of Medicine and Dentistry, and the other NHS organisations whose funds The Charity has responsibility for.
